Questions
What is sat/vB?
Satoshis per virtual byte. Bitcoin fees are paid per unit of block space, not per amount sent: a transaction’s fee is its size in vbytes times the rate. Sending 0.001 BTC or 100 BTC costs the same if the transactions are the same size.
Why can fees be below 1 sat/vB now?
Since Bitcoin Core 29.1 (2025) nodes relay transactions paying as little as 0.1 sat/vB by default. Many wallets still round up to 1 sat/vB, so the “precise” tiers here can be lower than what your wallet offers.
How do I pay less?
Use a Native SegWit or Taproot address (smaller inputs), send when the mempool is quiet (weekends are often cheaper), batch several payments into one transaction, and consolidate small coins when fees are low.
